Join artist Jesse McClanahan for a clay workshop series exploring the art of making clay instruments. Workshop Schedule: Friday: 5:00pm – 8:30pm Flute Making Saturday: 9:00am – 5:00pm (Lunch Break: 12:00pm – 3:00pm) Whistle Making Sunday: 9:00am – 5:00pm (Lunch Break built into the day) Ocarina Making Throughout the weekend, the class will progress from flutes and whistles to ocarinas inspired by Appalachian landscapes and cultural traditions. Participants will create small, functional ceramic instruments using handbuilding techniques and finish them with terra sigillata. Alongside hands-on instruction, Jesse will share insights from her studies in the Andes, offering a perspective on the deep connections between clay, community, and sound. All materials and tools are provided, including clay, terra sigillata finishes, and ceramic tools. Kiln firing fees and distribution of finished works are covered through BAC/Bobtown, and a class assistant will be available if needed. Food and lodging are also included, making this a fully supported, immersive experience.
