Perhaps you've never touched glass but
have watched artisans creating lampwork beads and wished you could
try it. Now
is your chance. This is a basic, introductory course designed
specifically for those who have never worked with glass. During
this class, you will learn about equipment and safety, then Jimmy
Lou will walk you step-by-step through creating your own glass beads. The
class will be limited to 3 participants so each student will receive
adequate hands-on assistance. All materials and equipment will be
furnished. Jimmy Lou will anneal students' beads overnight,
and they will be available for pickup the next day. Beads
created
on Sunday will be mailed to the students. If participants
wish, they may
purchase additional equipment and materials at cost to take home. (A
definite plus to this workshop is Jimmy Lou's delightful
personality.)

"What fun to make a living doing
something I love. I spent 35 years working in a medical
laboratory. Now I'm making glass beads and creating jewelry from those
beads. It's so much more fun and a lot less responsibility."
Jimmy Lou was 55 when she started
her business called Hot Flash Beads. "Having hot flashes and melting
glass over an open flame helped me name the business," she
jokes. Jimmy Lou and
her sister Dinah own Honeysuckle Vine Gallery located in Old
Town Artisan Village.
Jimmy Lou is an exhibiting member
of the Kentucky Guild of Artist and Craftsmen and a member of
the International Society of Glass Bead Makers. Two of
her works are included in A Thousand Glass Beads
published by Lark Press.
